ACE

Picture
ACE is a veterinary hospital based on the outskirts of Luxor, Egypt. Many of the local communities living in the surrounding villages of Luxor can barely earn enough to support their families so we provide free emergency veterinary care. We aim to improve the quality of life for the working animals by not only providing free veterinary care but also prevention through education and providing washing facilities – the original idea of ACE.

Our work is predominantly working equids (85%) but we also do domestic animals and some farm animal work.

We have recently built a new hospital, where we have a small animal consult room and operating theatre. We have 25 stables that can house up to 30 horses and donkeys. There is a dedicated outpatient clinic also where we see approx 2000 animals a month. There is also a dedicated education room where we have approx 400 local children a week between the ages of 8-12yrs coming in for a morning’s lesson. During this morning we teach the children animal welfare i.e. learning to look after their animal that works hard for them, providing food, water etc. They also get a tour of the hospital where they learn about what we do, how we are here to help them free of charge and what can be done by them out in the community to try and prevent some of the things we see. www.ace-egypt.org.uk

The problem I am facing here is the thousands of pets in our streets ,you can find many cats dead under cars or wounded dogs, thin hungry cats.. notice them full of fleas and worms, street cats and dogs are getting more and more , no neuter or spay to stop this big problem, the tragedies you can see when people poison those beautiful animals with no reason!

We have big shelters in Cairo the capital of Egypt but they stopped accepting those cases except if its poison or hit, so I had to depend on myself trying to rescue and help by my own, I work alone no workers , but  I am doing my best to keep them in safe clean healthy place full of love before any thing, there needs becomes first issue in my life .. I try to give them best adoption if I can so I can give a place for a new case to take a chance in taking care.

How can any one sleep after seeing a kitty hiding in a car from rain or dying for a drop of water!

SPARE

SPARE ( Society for the Protection of Animal Rights in Egypt ) was created  after we decided to take action to try to stop the atrocities inflicted to the animals in our country.
The Egyptian government is controlling the dog population with Strichnine poison , and is killing thousands of dogs everywhere. Amazingly it is  the State Veterinary Department which is the one that is in charge of poisoning the dogs in the streets.
The ministry of Interior also has a special department to shoot the dogs in the streets , they often shoot and don't kill because they don't know how to shoot  and kill the dog immediately, they  leave him in the street howling and screaming with a bullet in his body . The agony of the poor animal is sometimes  very long and  can last 2 or 3 days until he dies .  Some-times it
survives and loses a leg or an eye ....it depends ..... This is how the dogs and cats are treated in Egypt .The children are systematically drowning the puppies and the kittens as if this is our
national game , most of the dogs rescued in our shelter were drowned in the canal and rescued on the last moment, of course many other times it was too late for the poor animal.
Any tourist can tell you a lot about the donkeys and horses .  Most of these are owned by poor people who treat them with cruelty and ignorance and it is almost impossible to see in
Egypt a healthy beautiful equine working in the streets. Most of them are maimed , sick and injured.
Our activities include taking  in any abused or injured animals (dogs, cats,> donkey, horses).

We spay , neuter any all the animals in our shelter, and any other dog or cat before releasing him to his original territory. We treat the equines of our area for free or very symbolic fees, all the peasants and farmers bring their animals to SPARE for free treatment . We have printed a booklet about animal welfare in Islam and  distribute  this book for free to anybody and everybody , hoping that through religion we can convince people to be more compassionate to animals.Educating children in schools , in our facility and in the Cairo zoo where we meet hundreds of Egyptian families. Education is one of SPARE's priorities.
