Update 28/11
Its still very wet here in Tamil Nadu. The roads in Chennai have been flooded for weeks now. As soon as we get dry weather we will be carrying out our ABC program again.I have many dogs
still to be operated on.AS i said before the ambulance comes from Chennai 60kms away. Its not a good idea to operate on street dogs when its so wet as the wounds dont heal so well. As soon as its dry we will be starting again. Elaine Update 2/10
i hope to carry out another neutering program in the next couple of weeks.
I have just returned from a meeting in Delhi organised by Federation Indian Animal Protection (FIAPO} This was very useful,Animal Welfare and the Law. I also spent 2 weeks at Animal Aid in Udaipur helping to train new members of the team there. I will contact the Blue Cross and let you know when the next operations are carried out. I think there is funding for another 20 dogs. Thank You Elaine Update 15/7
Dear Betty,Sylvie. On Wed 13th we had another ABC program.(animal Birth Control)

Good morning, here are some pictures of the dogs getting their distemper/parvo injections .
Hope to get more operated on next week Elaine Dear Chinny, over the last 9 mths over 70 dogs have been neutered in Mahaballipuram, and nearby villages. The difference it has made to the dogs is unbelievable.I am in a lucky position,as i can keep a check on most of the dogs daily. AS you know this has been made possible with the help of AMCF in Holland, they have funded the program for me,as well as paying for over 70 dog vaccines. The Blue Cross ,of course have carried out the operations, and with the cheery help of driver and dog catcher, our job has been made a lot easier. We still have funding for another 50 dogs,so will continue over the next couple of months. Thank you all for your support Elaine Update 7/6/2011yesterday we visited a new village and caught 14 dogs for neutering. We then returned to mahaballipuram and caught another 8 making a total of 22 dogs.
I have sent some more photos .Some are taken of the dogs after their op and as you can see are very happy. Thank you Elaine Update 3/6/2011Good morning, just to let you know we have another neutering program planned for monday.
I have spent the last week checking on dogs just operated on and they are all fine. Can you tell me how much money is left from the money raised. I will get some photos sent to you this week.Thank you again for your support. This has been a very busy 6 mths for me,but the difference this campaign has made to the street dogs is incredible. I visit the dogs each day,and am rewarded by wagging tails, licks and the sight of happy healthy dogs. Best wishes Elaine Update 1/6/2011Good morning,we operated on 22 dogs 13 female,9 male.I will contact Blue Cross again re invoice.
Elaine Update 17/5/2011Yesterday we took 22 more dogs to be operated on to the Blue Cross.
For Once we didnt have any rain!!.The ambulance came at 7.30 am and the 2 drivers wasted no time in catching the dogs. It is getting a bit more difficult to catch the dogs ,as a lot are very timid. We allways have plenty of biscuits to distract them, and the boys from the Blue Cross skillfully catch them. We took 13 females and 9 males. I will ask the Blue Cross to invoice you,and i will get a friend to help me send some more photos. Thank You Elaine | Financieel: Totaal ingezameld voor Elaine 2.252 euro; betaald tm eind mei 705 euro voor sterlisatie en vaccinatie projecten, rest 1.547 euro. |
Update 21/11/2010Dear AMCF here are some upto date pictures. These are the dogs that were operated on last week.I check them each day.Thats no problem when its not raining, but when its wet, they go into hiding !!
Update 17/11/2010 Dear all,my 14 dogs returned yesterday from the Blue Cross,They were all fine and have been released.I have checked on them this morning and will continue to do so for the next week. All week we have been talking to villagers re the importance of neutering street dogs, and of course rabies vaccinations. The ambulance came from Chennai in pouring rain, and battled with flooded streets. We had another 20 dogs to send back to be operated on.Which was amazing given the awful weather. They will be returned to the village in a weeks time. Again thanks to every one who donated to this project. It will be continued over the next couple of mths, and i will keep you updated .Elaine |
Update 10/11/2010
At last some good news.Yesterday in the pouring rain we started our neutering program.
Its been a busy week.We had leaflets made to give to the villagers telling them about the neutering and rabies vacc program. We had an advertisement on the local TV. I talked to the Blue Cross, and local Panchyat, and spoke to the local people. The Blue cross sent an ambulance at 8.00am and 1 hour later we had 14 dogs to be neutered. The weather was so bad that a lot of dogs were sheltering from the rain, and proved difficult to find. The dogs will be kept at the Blue Cross for 1 week, then returned to the village. When we hope to sent the next lot of dogs. I would like to thank all the people that have made this possible. Every one at AMCF for your support, every one that donated money to make this project work, and the Blue cross Chennai for their help.( The ambulance driver and dog catcher need a special mention as there kindness with the dogs made my job a lot easier) Thank you all on behalf of the dogs in Mahaballipuram Elaine |
