Gambicats was founded in 1998 to help the stray cats and dogs in the Gambia where they were often brutally killed out of the tourist season . It works mainly among the hotels and beaches but also with gambian-owned pets too where funds allow. Dodoubojang is the full-time coordinator and he monitors the health of dogs and cats in most of the hotels areas. The programme of neutering stray cats and dogs and returning to site has resulted in more than 1000 animals being treated. The charity tries to fund a programme each year where a vet and nurse dedicate 1 - 2 weeks to a neutering clinic in various locations. The local vets assist during the rest of the year. Dogs are given anti-rabies vaccinations and micro chipped.
