I am an English Veterinary Nurse. For the last 2 years I have been living in a village in South India. There is no veterinary doctor here, so I have started a clinic to help the street dogs. My main work is as follows: - Basic treatments: skin infections, mange, parasites - Rabies vaccinations: rabies kills over 30.000 people each year in India, over half are children under 15 years. To date I have vaccinated over 200 dogs. - Health checks: puppies are checked over and given tick, worm and flea treatment. They are also vaccinated against rabies. They are given a collar. This is usually a source of great pride for dog and owner as it develops a feeling of ownership. - Education: I have produced a simple leaflet using pictures to educate the children on caring for their dog. I have also produced a rabies prevention leaflet, which I have given to local houses, offices etc. I am not a charity; this has all been funded by me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. HNS is always looking for people to assist in the development and implementation of our projects. Tree-planting with children, garbage clean-up campaigns, wildlife-aid and editing nature magazines are just a few of the areas you can look in to. Current Focus : In the stray animal welfare project we are trying to provide veterinary health care services to injured and sick stray dogs and animal birth control (ABC) awareness and assistance. We are putting our all energies to establish a permanent hospital and shelter house for stray animals. At present we runs a clinic with basic surgical facilities. www.hnsindia.org & www.piyarakutta.org People for Animal Trust
We started a small advocacy group which was registered in 2007 on 21 June, as People For Animals Trust (Faridabad). Established to alleviate the suffering of animals. These are following aims and objects of our Trust: VSPCA
Visakha SPCA (www.vspca.com) is a large animal sanctuary on the east coast of India in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. We are a home for dogs, cats, turtles, monkeys, cows, buffaloes, birds, horses, and other distressed and abandoned animals. The number of animals that we rescue and treat is increasing every year. We have over 40 workers from the poor and needy villages nearby and give meaningful employment to those who would otherwise have little work. Our shelter is an eco-friendly environment as we have many plants for wildlife protection; we use and make biogas (energy from cow dung) and vermicompost. We have an animal ambulance and are on call to help SOS animals in our community. We have done ABC (animal birth control: spay/neuter and rabies vaccination) to over 70,000 dogs in our city. We also do outreach to farmers, schools and the general public for humane education, sea turtle protection and teach animal birth control methods to help dogs and cats. |
