Helga Heidrich Foundation
In 1995 Helga Heidrich opened an area in Douar Ahmed Belhaj, a Marrakech suburg, which she arranged and equipped to shelter all the animals in distress there. It was decided to create a Foundation to guarantee continuity.
The objectives are a better life for the animals, building a place of reception and retirement home for animals, guarantee free veterinary care for owners with a low income, humanitarian aid, support the owners, reduce misery by sterilization of stray dogs and cats, fight problem of rabies, education programs at schools, provide information to tourists.
An indescribable misery reigns on the protection and the maintenance of the animals at Marrakech. The animals of burden are particularly touched, donkeys, mules and horses. Animals present open wounds, flies cover the wounds, no care, no drugs, animals need to find their food themselves in the rubbish, no watter, barbed wire used as bits, excessive overloads leeds to the bowels leaving the anus, when it is worn out, it is desposed anywhere, left to die.
Program stray cat control at hotels: many stray cats live near hotels where they find food and shelter, they can become a origin of publich health problems but also cause irritation and sorrow by customers and hosts. The program of CNR takes the cats, sterilise them and place them back, so they can control the rats and mouse and therefore will have a positive influence. Also restau-cats are openend, these are small plates where the cats can house and eat, the people are informed only to feed the cats there.
