Horjul Slovenia April 2011Many things have happened since we last heard each other, so I decided it is time for an update :))) We have a new web page, which is only in slovene language for now, but the "english" button is already there, and one of our girls is prepairing english texts, so hopefully we'll have both versions soon. We had quite a lot of snow this winter, that is why we can't wait for the spring to come. It is a bit unpleasent working in a shelter when it is -12 degrees. :) I must say we rehomed quite some animals from 1.1.2011. Yesterday we rehomed an 11-years old Piki (Spot). We also had two male dogs in our shelter, who became such a good friends, that we decided they have to rehome them together. Maybe it is hard to belive, but since they met each other they were constantly together. I enclosed a link to their theme on forum, where you can see the pictures. Text is in slovene but the pictures are worth a hundred words :)) Last week a lady came, and she decided to take them both. She wanted two dogs and she have quite some expiriences with problematic dogs also. I think they foud a great home. You can imagine how happy we were.:)) Here is the link to the webpage http://www.zavetisce-horjul.net/ "iščejo nov dom" means animals for rehoming, there are dogs, cats and other animals. We also accepted in our shelter two rabbits and a white rat. The number written beside every animal means how many days she is in our shelter. "spet doma" means in a new home, but there are all the animals who were rehomed or returned to the owner in a year 2011, and a couple of them that were euthanised due to their sevear medical condition. Beside every picture it is written how long we had the animal and what happened in the and. "pes meseca" is dog of the month, those two are Mizi and Sonny-our famous couple :)) Here is also link to their theme http://www.mojpes.net/forum/index.php/topic,39494.0.html Here is also link to our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/zavetisce Look forward to hearing from you. Tanzania Animal Welfare Februari 2011
We are facing unusual situation following Military Bombs Blasts at Gongo la
Mboto base in Dar es salaam, Tanzania on 16th February 2011 where thousands of
people are displaced and animals left behind without help, about 20 people
reported dead and many others injured.
http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/news/international/Blasts_at_Tanzania_military_depot_kill_20.html?cid=29519496
We are helping them through provision of food, water, medicines and vaccination against rabies and treatment of injured animals. We shall be grateful of any kind of support. Kind regards Thomas 18/2 The situation at the moment is that we are attending about 60 animal cases per day related to the bomb explosions. Most animals are presenting signs of blasted eye injuries, change of behavour , wounds on the body and deafness. A good thing is that people are now returning to their homes after being assured by the goverment that there will be no more explosions, they are bringing their affected animals at our treatment camps which we set around primary schools. We are treating the wounds, deworming them and vaccinating against rabies diseases, our initial plan is to help the animals for 14 days without rest, you know the explosions went up 25 kilometres from the military base at rondom, we are reaching the animals in various affected locations by camping in primary school compounds. Attached are the photographs with the names as caption. The medicines we require are penstreptomycine, xylazine, atropine sulphate, anti flea products, ketamine, wound spray, eye ointments, dewormers, savlon, multivitamins and where possible some chirugical instruments. |

Hello Everyone,
I wanted to advise you that this week, the Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre has rescued 3 donkeys and a mare, all locally. Two of the donkeys were homed immediately and the other donkey who has now been named "CHARITY" will stay at the centre as will the mare "Star Chance"
Charity the donkey is undernourished and her teeth have been so badly neglected that she can not eat properly. Her head collar has dug in to the top of her head and under her lip and caused infection.
"Star Chance" the mare is so undernourished, you can count her ribs and see her hip bones. Due to her hooves not being attended to by a farrier, one of her legs looks deformed where the length of the hoof has forced her to stand and walk incorrectly. We yet have to find out if there has been any permanent damage to her internal organs etc.
You may think that someone handed these equines over to the centre. Unfortunately that is not the case. In total the centre has paid 1,100 euros for the four. Four local business people have come up with 800 euros to help the centre rescue them. The support of the general public has been overwhelming.
To enable these poor creatures to receive the care and attention they deserve, and to help build up what are surely, their broken spirits, the rescue centre desparately need people to come forward and sponsor them. Sponsorship starts at just 5 euros per month, (just one cup of coffee per week!).
If you think you can help by sponsoring just 5 euros a month (or more) or even making a one off donation, then please get in touch.
You can email me.
You can call Sue on 652021980
You can donate online at www.easyhorsecare.net
You can come to the centre
(Sundays and Wednesdays 1-4pm you can also get refreshments).
Please send this email to anyone you know to help us raise awareness of what is happening here in Spain, and particularly in our local area.
Thank you for your support.

I would like to add that we need, above all, some volunteers vets to help us in the spray/neuter campaign. With the help of Worldwide Vets Service, normally they "just" have to pay the half ticket flight and we pay food & accommodation on the spot. We try to organize a campaign each 2 months but most of time it's hard to find volunteers.
Thanks a lot

Awfull news from Skiathos Greece December 2010The last week we have had almost daily bad news from Skiathos, an unknown decease has killed many kittens and youngsters. Sharon is working 24/7 without getting any sleep to try and treat them but without a vet on the island it has been almost impossible for her.
She has send some bodies to a vet on an other island to investigate what has caused the cats to die. We feel so much with her, so many kittens that she saved from the streets, that she took care off now died under her hands. We know that she is doing all she can and can only give her our support. Therefor we place the pictures of all these little ones on our website so that they will not be forgotten. |

The fifth february, I was called at 6:30 am that someone had poured fuel onto a dog and lit him on fire, the dog ran into the street then into a big street pipe and I rushed immediately trying to find him but he was no longer there, there were blood staines in the inside of the big piece of pipe. We looked everywhere, asked everybody and nobody knew about it only 2 persons showed a little interest, I left my telephone number to everybody in case it was true and the dog would appear, sometimes we believe that those things can't happen.
At 10:30 I stopped searching, went to the police station and presented a denounce, then returned to animal Help, a little before 12am I was called again that the dog had appeared, in a terrible state, so I rushed again, called the police for support and they were already waiting for me, I gave him a strong pain reliever, the policemen helped me put him om my van and I rushed home with him, started with all the skin treatment immediately, with propoleo and aloe, antibiotics, xilocaine I made a mix with the mixer and spread it all over his body with the help of a soft paint brush, we gave him water, and he drank it, he even walked and when he slept his breathing was soft and his posture relaxed showing he wasn't suffering, he didn't cry at any moment, he didn't try to bite at all, I spoke to him and he wagged his tail, everytime he saw me he did so, such a big tender creature like an angel.
We all thought he was going to recover, the 6th I went to sleep at 9:30pm and before so I spread propoleo on his nose and big areas, he had walked and had a calm appearance, when I stood up, he went to his bed, (I thought that they are more civilized than us, what would we do in his place, would we be so tender?) , at 3:30 am I went to see him again, and he was no longer breathing, I couldn't stop crying, I had a pressure on my throat, and I wrote to al of you. It is now time to make a halt in this Country Uruguay, since the 28th january it is one denounce after the other about mistreatment. Help us stop this, please help us sending our president and the government disagreement with the law of animal welfare which they haven't approved yet, I am absolutely disgusted. If there is something which will fill their pockets they approve it. If animals are worth money they are interested in them. Uruguay must change immediately. Help us stop this please!!!! Send letters to the Uruguayan government please!!!

Dai Lapa Bulgarije October 2010
On 8th of October Tom and his friend Erwin came to Bulgaria. We went to Kazanluk (a town in Bulgaria) where a castration campaign was done from an Austrian organization - TIERHILFE SÜDEN. You could read Tom’s report here à http://www.respektiere.at/useruploads/files/bulgariens_tiertragoedie.pdf .
On 10th of Oct we – me, Tom and Erwin went to Babitsa where is the new shelter of Dai Lapa. The situation there is … not good. Tom promised me to try finding homes for more of the dogs but only if the people from Dai Lapa stop taking new dogs. I hope Tom to succeed finding homes because in this place the dogs don’t feel well and the winter will be very hard for them. I took pictures of all dogs that live there in the moment. You could see them here à http://yorko.snimka.bg/animals/babitsa-16-10-2010.542645.21089321 . (If you wonder what is snapped on 1-2 of the pictures … well, it is a frog and a drowned mouse in the dog’s water) The other problem is that all dogs are ill – they have Giardia and in these awful conditions their cure is almost impossible. The floor can’t be washed and without water all buckets for water are dirty. So I won’t permit these dogs to be delivered to any shelters or privet homes in Austria before they are completely healthy. And now I am looking for any solution – where to be moved a part of the dogs and to be cured. Giardia tests will be done of all dogs before their traveling. Sometimes I think that I won’t cope with all this … Love Rumi Huayang Thailand October 2010

Today on 20.10.10 People For Animals- Faridabad organised a big school presentation in Modern school (in school audutraium) at sec-17, Faridabad. Our guest speaker was Anna (from uk) , she is our PFA volunteer . Judy was also there (Anna`s friend from uk) , she helped out Anna during puppet presentation. Our Chief Guest was Elodie (education head of Asia for WSPA). Main motive of our presentation was to make aware students to adopt street dogs and they should know about their vaccination importance. If more and more people will adopt local sreet dogs and provide vaccination there will be less numbers of road accidents due to dogs, dog nuisance and control over rabies. Anna explain how one female dog give birth to so many puppies through puppet presentation (photo attach). (pictures in the album of PFA) ** 4/11 Yesterday we rescued a dog suffering from a serious maggot wound from nh-3 , treatment for the same dog is currently going on in our shelter by Dr. MK Sharma (photo attached). We also rescued an injured baby money from sec- 21c h.no 927, he is now 100% recovered due to treatment in our own shelter. In addition to this monkey we rescued an adult monkey that had suffered severe electric shock and subsequant burns, this monkey's condition is significantly improved, he is now eating. We began his treatment with liquid glucose daily based on advice from a vet we now have constant contact with for advice. Aware of our limitations i.e no resident vet we delivered him to WILDLIFE SOS. Another very recent success story is a puppy (photo attached) with a leg injury. He has now been realeased after making a full recovery within our shelter. Lastly we received into the shelter a three legged dog, also suffering from semi paralysis, again based on our vetinary surgeon's advice which he delivers free of charge we are giving him vitamins, syrup and a neroubin tab daily. Hopefully this will also be a success story. Amazon Care Peru

Cedar Centre Portugal October 2010
I am pleased to say that all is well at the Center we lost 1 young dog to Parvovirous, so sad he was so sweet. Fortunately we were able to contain the problem and had no further incidents.
I have sent to you a selection of pictures for your information primarily to show that we do try to accommodate all animals that need care. The 2 little kittens came from totally different directions on the same day. We did try to put them together but "Tom" thinks he is Mike Tyson and kept hitting little "Snowy". With the sheep there is a donkey her name is Maria. She was rescued from a pig farm where she had spent the majority of her life walking and lying in pig manure not a proper stable. This resulted in her losing the hair on her legs and under belly. The hair follicles had been smothered and failed to produce. The unfortunate ongoing sage was really distressing for her, her hairless legs and belly were under constant attack by flies and wasps, we designed a support system to attach leggings too that she had to wear over her legs which were smothered with Vaseline. This year we seem to have the situation under control she has her own stable that she can get into quickly if she needs to get away from the insects and the hair growth is really taking hold. All of the sheep in the picture are rescued they had been left to starve in a field with no grazing or water available for them. They were brought to the Center with the support of the Police. They have since produced 2 lambs 1 of which has been adopted as a pet. From all of us at the Center, Thank You Barry Ezelbrug Hongarije October 2010

Dear Betty, have not forgotten about my obligation to your donors but still do not have the photos yet because the volunteer photographer can be at two of our foster homes only during this week and not before. She is a different one from the previous photographer who promised me she will do it over this weekend but failed to do so. The third foster home owner will take the photos by her self since she lives very far from Haifa and no volunteer would go there to do it. She also gave me her word she will do it during this week as she was on holyday for the past week. So u c dear betty, it is not so easy to recruit volunteers even if they say they r willing to volunteer. Nevertheless I am so used to it over my 15 years of volunteering that I stopped being disappointed or angry with them. So what I want to ask u is to re assure your donors that the lovely toys, blankets etc they sent us were very useful for our kittens and hope they will b a bit more patient…
Happy new year,

Nancy StrayDogs visits president of Serbe
Straydogs supports Nis Serbe and Irina in Roemenia like the AMCF.
So many people convinced me to go..although these things are so not like me! But getting personal invitation..to meet the president of Serbia..I knew i could not refuse this! I refused to put on costume and high heels haha I just put on t-shirt with a puppie on haha what else! And I didn't mind people looking a bit strange at my t-shirt..as i was there for the dogs! And I was so so nervous! Lucky my contact of Serbian ambassady Srdjan was there to take care of me ;-)) and he insisted I should talk to the president and wanted to introduce me!And I had to ask him which one of the guys was the president haha and he said the handsome guy..:-)) and then I still did not know! I asked him if I could not ask him letter for our transports..to make sure not to pay taxes and without sanitairy checks..but he said that was impossible..these are all rules and regulations..that should be followed.. :-(( He also wants me to get in touch with some journalist..to tell about our help in serbia..he thinks it is very important and can set an exemple for more help..He introduced me to all people ambassadors who will be in when serbia joins EU.. So I just said i was very happy and honoured to meet him and I gave him a candle of our orga with dogs on as a present (which first had to be asked to security :-)) He said he has many dogs in his house as his children always want more of them..so I said to give candle to his children..and he thanked me for it and said his children would like it very much! Then I asked him how Mila was doing..the dog in belgrado who has been chopped off all 4 legs..and he was so surprised I knew about her! I said Mila made international news of what happened to her and that i also knew he is paying everything for her to get her better .and then he was even more surprised I knew!.he said he adopted her..so I asked if she was at his home and he said no..in special care..And then I explained in short about our orga straydogs..helping shelters in Serbia..and he said it was a good thing haha. And that was it..I think..as i was so nervous! He held our candle..and I asked if I could take a pic..but that also had to be asked to security.. and then they took the candle..so I asked if I could be in pic with him..and it was ok! So after everybody wanted to have picture taken with him! People were in line to have a meet and greet with the president! Nancy |

Amazon Care Peru 15-4-2010Please to read you and thanks a lot for not forgetting us !! Sorry i was very occupied these last weeks, what explain that i haven't sent you any news about Amazon Cares and the life of our charity. I had to organize the next campaigns, which just finished on Monday. With 2 French young vets, one from Lima and a another one from UK (more the Amazon CARES team) we succeed to neuter 94 street dogs in Iquitos more 13 in Caballo Cocha (on the Amazon river near Colombia) and 163 medical care (vaccination anti rabies, worming, treatment against flea and mange, injuries etc.). For us it's a new success, working with brave volunteers, involving local governments and population, kids in schools during the pedagogic meetings and giving a new opportunity for more than 10 dogs that are living now in our shelter for a while before being re homed. I send you 2 links where you could see the team at work, more the blog of the 2 French girls. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?id=686309972&aid=199820&l=3e264695f8&s=0&hash=a2e8dfa9db62d0e5fb17acdc70677ef3 http://www.facebook.com/pages/Amazon-CARES-Peru-Veterinary-Volunteer-Association/113509768674313 http://projetvetoauperou.blogspot.com/ .............. in French !! Thanks a lot and I promise, I read you soon A tres bientot..... Best wishes, Bruno ANTOINE Director de la ONG Amazon CARES |

| Disturbing News from Rumi Dai Lapa Bulgaria
On Saturday I saw Abra and took some new pictures of her. Abra is well and I am very happy that she will come to you. Not only because I, very much, want her to have a loving home, but also because the destiny of the rest of the dogs that live together with Abra in Pernik is very unclear. I don’t remember if I told you that this shelter was a municipality isolator for homeless dogs (something like concentration camp for dogs). And in June 2009 the association Dai Lapa won the competition for managing the isolator. But their contract with the municipality expires in the end of May this year. The municipality won’t renew the contract with them because the municipality is not pleased of their work (Dai Lapa doesn’t euthanize enough homeless dogs!!). The contract is for castrating and returning of the dogs to their places, but municipality doesn’t want the dogs at the streets even if they are castrated so it’s most probably for the municipality just to take on any other organization or company that will kill high numbers of the dogs. For now we don’t have any decision of this bad and disturbing situation. I don’t know what will happen with these about 70 dogs that live there now. We try to find any foreign organization to apply for managing of the shelter but as you know this is very hard task. So I am very very happy for everyone saved dog from there.

EreSOS Greece - March 2010In the middle of January we received an email from the dutch veterinarian Jacha Heukels. She had read on our website how we are always desperately in need for volunteer vets who are willing to come and help us neuter cats and dogs.
Then everything went very fast. On both sides we started with the preparations and less than three weeks later Jacha and her assistant Jiska arrived on Mitilini airport. Despite the cold and rainy weather (catching cats in the rain wasn’t always easy…) everyone was extremely dedicated. The lobbying turned out to be succesfull: also locals came with dogs and cats, and we even managed to persuade some owners of female chaindogs… The score: 5 male dogs, 21 female dogs (2 pregnant), 39 male cats, 49 female cats (13 pregnant) and of course a lot of emergency care. ** more photos ** |

Canine Life Support Sri LankaUpdate CLS
The month of January 2010 was a very productive one; we sterilized 278 dogs and 9 cats! Education We firmly believe that prevention is the best medicine. Therefore, we put a lot of focus on informing people about dogbite prevention, animal welfare and interaction with animals. Kids are mostly at risk so we talk to kids and use WSPA’s dogbite prevention leaflets which are available in many languages, also Sinhala. During our mobile clinics we sterilize and vaccinate stray, community and owned dogs. We also educate the community about dogbite prevention and animal welfare. WSPA This month a representative of the WSPA (World Society for the Protection of Animals) visited one of our mobile clinics. The reason for this was that we have applied to become a member society. This means we have to meet the international standards for field work. The representative was very positive and gave us excellent feedback. Clinics We held clinics in Beruwala, Ratnapura and Udawalawa this month. We sterilized and vaccinated 278 dogs and 9 cats at these locations. Once again we came across many emaciated, diseased strays with tumors and infections. We treat them the best way we can before we release them again. People who bring their animal(s) to our clinic receive instructions on the after-surgery care of theiranimal as well as a lecture on dogbite prevention and responsible pet ownership. Am attaching some photos of our struggle with the F and M disease that engulfed us a month ago. Our experience shows around 21 days time and we have been affected with around 120 nos and this is despite the six months a year vaccination. The treatment continues for them with specialised more protien food and mineral mixtures besides the cleaning of the foot by solutions and antibiotics and besides engaging another ten animal helpers to deal with the situation in handling and cleaning. I am sending them with the hope and under the clarification that any asistance maybe provided under your scheme. The expenses relate to one animal cost with medicine per day = Rs. 60 x 21 = Rs.1260 The total for 120 animals affected = Rs.1260 x 120 = Rs.151200 or $3360. Looking forward,
Kind regards, Pradeep. ** more photos **

Petition Maroc Animal Welfare
Animals in Morocco
"If you visit Morocco, you'll certainly be charmed by the hospitality of the Moroccans, their kindness and goodness. However, a question remains: Have Moroccans forgotten that animals are living beings and that they deserve Respect? Indeed, animal abuse in this country is a reality, and it is more visible as dogs, cats, horses, mules and others, are part of the landscape. They are everywhere in the country, in cities the streets of cities ... But there are also those that are not seen and who suffer out of sight. They are often horses and mules. Why are they so abused? Of course, the life of many Moroccans is difficult and many have to work long hours to earn some money. Is this a reason to punish those without whom they would have even less? The city of Casablanca: One can spend a day in Casablanca without ignoring the presence of animals around. Thousands of dogs and cats suffer the daily plight of the street. They are neglected, abandoned, victims of cruelty, not vaccinated and not sterilized. Horses, donkeys are the means of transport for the poorest. They are treated as mere objects, soulless, emotionless. The pickups of the impounded dogs are made in inhumane conditions. Yes, the plight of animals in Morocco is clearly visible. It is time to make it better.. do something! Help us help them! " Add more? I think we should help the handful of animal guards who tirelessly give themselves body and soul to the defence of these unfortunates. LET'S SOLIDARITY OF ANIMAL PROTECTION OF MOROCCO! http://lapetition.be/en-ligne/petition-4622.html
