Marietta Bulgarije - september 2011
yesterday I received some pictures from Marieta's place and her beautiful doggies and I decided to share them with you. At the moment Marieta has about 60 dogs and the unique thing is that they don't live into cages - they live free in her garden and house as her pets. Their number varies because some of the dogs find new homes and leave Marieta's house but immediately other ones takes their place. Marieta continues working in the castration center for homeless animals near Sofia and during the 5 working days in the week, when she has to be there, her boy-friend cares for all 60 dogs. As well she goes every week to Sofia's dog isolator where together with two more volunteers feed the dogs and take some of them. A lot of dogs in that isolator wait to be euthanized and Marieta rescues just from them. And because of it the number of the dogs into her house never comes down, no matter how many dogs she succeeds to re-home. I'd like to thank you again from her behalf for your great support because it is really very important for her!

Amazon Care Peru - september 2011
Report from Bruno Antoine, Director of Amazon CARES in Peru: (translated from Spanish)
The NGO Amazon CARES is mostly known for its campaigns of sterilization and veterinary services in poor areas of our region. In August, CARES has undertaken a new campaign of environmental health from Nauta, Bellavista-Nanay and the Yarapa River basin. However, even during our campaigns, our full service Veterinary Clinic on Pevas Street is open and committed throughout the year to those most in need. In August, for example, the social agenda of the NGO, funded by contributions from veterinary clinic customers, served 34 animals in the clinic (in addition to the campaign) for a sum of Nuevo Soles S/ 1,280. (USD $470) The following is a summary of actions taken: Clinic costs incurred by the NGO: 5 Sterilization dogs / cats with owner S/ 100 (USD $36.66) 2 Sterilization dogs / cats of the street S/160 (USD $58.65) 16 Other animal actions with owned animals 16 S/ 980 (USD $359.35) 1 Other animal acts with animal from the street 1 S/ 40 (USD $14.67) Apart from medical procedures, CARES has given has 8 talks (in the market for Bellavista Nanay, Puerto Miguel, Nauta, Iquitos and Isla College César Vallejo), there have been 6 interviews (Channel 2, Amazon channel, The Ribenero Nauta and Channel 19), 5 press articles, and 6 dog adoptions (Ball, Vania, Lilian, Canela, Gustavo and Ana) and 4 kitten adoptions. Sadly, we performed one euthanasia on a very ill street dog. As an institution, we are in the process of coordinating a health partnership with the community of Bellavista Nanay. During our small veterinary campaign during August, we sterilized 68 animals, treated 352 animals including de-worming, flea and tick control, and treatment for mange, and distributed 1,171 Albendazole 400 mg anti-parasite tablets to humans. We also lectured to over 150 students, and adults about responsible pet ownership. |
Cedar Centre Portugal - September 2011
The Quinta is in a village called Casais de São Clemente. It is because of location that we are limited to the number of dogs as we are on the edge of the village.
Casais is approximately 20 kilometres south of the City of Coimbra. This is a city of long standing and boasts one of the oldest established Universities in Europe. It sits beside the Mondego River. Casais is a very small village the nearest town is Miranda Do Corvo. The authorities there have been very supportive in allowing us to raise money using the gardens in front of the Town Hall to hold a monthly fair. There is not much else to say about Casais except that we have been here for 24 years looking after the animals for 18 years and we love it. Unfortunately the stipulations required by the DGV (Director General Veterinarians) regarding the design layout, and other specifications make it financially impossible for us to be able to expand. Many of these rules and regs came into force long after we started looking after the abandoned animals. Although the rules only relate to Dogs. Our kennels are large clean with separate sleeping accommodation. The dogs are fed twice a day and cleaned out every morning. All kennels are connected to separate septic tanks. Although we are not strictly in line with the regs the DGV have turned a blind eye providing we do not expand the dog population. Hence our decision to assist where possible with the grazing animals. We are maintaining our small but effective clinic and support where we can the local population with first aid and where necessary problems such as abscesses, open wounds. antibiotic injections etc using directions either psychically or by phone with our very supportive group of vets. I look forward to hearing from you again soon. for now take care. Barry | Refuge pres Verts - September 2011
Claire’s got back to me and to be brief, because of very poor health, Claire has transferred nearly all of her horses to another much larger refuge (150 horses plus other animals) although financially speaking, she is still responsible for these horses.
She still has all of her dogs and cats with her at the refuge and so was very grateful for the parcel – thank you! My personal opinion is this; I asked for your support for Claire and her ‘four-footed family’ made up of 15 horses plus a dozen cats and a dozen dogs. For the moment the refuge is not quite the same as before and she has not indicated that any of her cats or dogs are in terrible need. I am very conscious that you help refuges in areas where animals suffer tremendously and are in need of constant medical attention. Thus, it seems logical to me to suspend the parcels for Claire until the return of her horses (at which point I would hope to be able to contactyou again)and therefore you can send a parcel to another refuge where the needs are critical. On behalf of Claire and ‘the family’, her protégés large and small who have benefitted from the your unceasing efforts and the kindness of the companies who help you – thank you all so much. She forgot the photo so I’ll remind her and send it as soon as I can. |

Tanzania Animal Welfare Society
The AMCF has donated 750 euro for the building of the new sterilisation clinic.
I hope you are all doing well at AMCF. We have now started the building slowly because we still need more support from people but the progress is good. Our members are also doing voluntary work by helping the mansons, this is allows us to reduce some costs. We approximate the building will cost up to US$ 4,000.00 till every thing is put in place and ready for use. Thank you so much for your support and we will keep you posted on the progress. If other people who may be interested to help they can do so through AMCF as we are able to get the support quickly through you. Greetings to all at AMCF Kind regards Thomas Dr.Thomas W.Kahema Tanzania Animal Welfare Society |
