The Foundation operates through a few dozen volunteers and inspectors, organized in six regional branches ( Poznan, Krosno Odrzanskie, Cieszyn, Zamosc, Jarocin, Slupsk) and a number of volunteer circles all over Poland, with the head office in Oddzial (30 m away from Warsaw). The animal rescue centre, which has existed for nearly 20 years now,  is also located in Oddzial, at the Foundation’s headquarters.

We take care of stray animals – lost because of the carelessness or negligence of their owners, abandoned by having been thrown out of a speeding car or tied to a tree in the woods with no chance to survive, deserted in parking lots or construction sites once the construction work is finished. After a holiday season we collect dogs and cats abandoned in recreation areas, streets and public roads, knocked down by cars and left badly injured, dying by the road. Some of the pets in our care are the victims of the cruelty of their previous owners – dogs and cats, often brutally crippled, beaten with whatever their owners could put their hateful hands on.

Unlike most animal shelters we not only provide a place for living (at our centre or at foster homes) but also vet’s care and behaviorist therapy to our residents so that they have a better chance to be re-homed when they are ready. At present, we have about 150 resident dogs in our animal rescue center in Oddzial and another few dozens placed in foster care.

The situation of stray animals is very difficult in Poland. The social awareness of the problem has never been very high and the recent economic crisis has made the situation even worse. Sterilization programs are becoming more popular, but they are still not effective enough. There are practically no grants from the government to support an organization like ours. All our funds are donations from individuals or small companies and the money raised through public or internet campaigns, etc. The Foundation has no regular employees. All the work is done on a volunteer basis. Our expenses include not only the cost of food and utilities. A serious position in our budget is the cost of vet’s care and medical products.

Tomaszow

The shelter in Tomaszów is more than 20 years old. There are about 150 dogs, more then there is place for. Most of the kennels are very dark. The dogs never come out of the kennel unless they go to the vet or get adopted. The shelter is in need. Because they don't get much support from the community only young and easy to adopt dogs are sterilised/castrated. Our goal is to help them so more dogs can be sterilised/castrated and bring as many supplies as possible.
