Finally we have news on the temporary dog shelter! It's a far cry from what we used to have but we know we are still a lot luckier then others. We currently have 30 very basic outdoor runs and now we have somewhere for them to be safe and looked after we can start to tackle the next problem - the summer. With temperatures of 50 degrees celcius and higher the dogs have to be in air conditioning so the race is on to come up with a solution as to how to keep them cool. Although we only have 30 runs and some of those are still not completely finished we are bursting to the seams with animals once again. We currently have over 35 puppies and 30 adults at the shelter and another 20 still in foster care. We don't have a cat facility just yet but a local boarding kennel has generously lent us their facilities for our cats and kittens until we can come up with a building of some sorts for the cats. We have had the architectural plans drawn up for a new, state of the art facility and we hope that sometime in the not so distant future we'll be sending you photos of our new home. Again, thank you to everyone who has supported us - it's fantastic to see such great support from all over the world. 

The clearance has begun and it's almost like there was nothing on that site. We're in the process of meeting with a team of architects that have offered to design the new shelter for us for free and we're all very excited at the new plans that are being drawn up. The support from everyone has been fantastic and hopefully we'll be up and running very soon. We're aiming to have a temporary shelter up before Christmas as it's one of our busiest times of the year for animals being abandoned but we're hoping the new shelter will be ready shortly after. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us.

Marijke Klop heeft op Barfplaats een actie gehouden voor Qaws wat maar liefst 450 euro heeft opgebracht. Hartelijk bedankt Marijke voor dit geweldige initiatief.

Van Petra Poorter van Wereldpootjes kregen we het bericht dat zij deze dag met een standje staan en de opbrengst doneren voor QAWS. Wat een geweldig initiatief en Miranda & Jolanda bedankt dat jullie het standje die dag willen bemannen.! (bevrouwen).  De opbrengst bedroeg maar liefst 252 euro! Nogmaals hartelijk dank!

Update 17/9 email van Qaws

All of us at QAWS offer our heartfelt thanks to you and your group, emails such as these help us to keep moving forward in our aim to provide a bigger and better shelter for those in need in Qatar.

We have now received the all clear from the authorities following their fire investigation. The huge clean up task will soon be underway. It is our intention to keep you all informed by way of a photgraph story, a picture shows far better what is happening than our words.

At this time we have a company of architects offering their support by way of plans, drawings, blue-prints and so on. A meeting is due to be held with the landowners to discuss building a larger shelter to offer more places for the animals in need. Once we have agreed on the number of kennels and cat condo's we will come back to you with the quantities of equipment.

Storage is an issue right now and we would respectfully request that you bear with us until things are a little clearer.

Gisteren ontvingen wij het volgende bericht (vertaald) van Kelly, onze contactpersoon voor het opvangcentrum QAWS in Qatar.

“Het is met grote droefheid dat ik deze mail stuur. Door een alle verwoestende brand is donderdag 3 september het volledige opvangcentrum van QAWS verwoest. Hoewel het ons is gelukt om meer dan 100 dieren te redden hebben we toch ongeveer 35 honden, katten, konijn en onze huis buidelrat verloren. We zijn alles kwijtgeraakt met de brand en wachten nu op de uitslag van het brandweer onderzoek zodat we hopelijk terugkunnen om de resten van de omgekomen dieren te kunnen begraven. Het enige wat QAWS nu nog heeft zijn de overgebleven dieren en de halsbanden die ze dragen.

De dieren die het oeverleefd hebben zijn allemaal tijdelijk ondergebracht bij dierenklinieken, kennels en pleeggezinnen op 10 stuks na. We hopen dat we deze 10 ook onder kunnen brengen en ons dan kunnen concentreren op herbouw van de opvang.

Wees gerust dat dit ons niet zal stoppen, we gaan door en zullen een grotere, betere en sterkere opvang bouwen zo gauw dit mogelijk is. We zijn overweldigd door de steun van de bevolking en overstroomd met giften van voer en manden voor de dieren. We hebben nu voldoende voer om de dieren voor ongeveer een maand te kunnen voeden. Zo snel we tijdelijke opslag hebben geregeld zullen we materialen gaan inzamelen voor de nieuwe opvang maar het zal nog gauw 8 tot 12 weken duren voor we iets van een operationele opvang kunnen openen."
