Felix is an association of cat lovers, founded by my associates and me in Novi Sad, Serbia, a few years ago. We were taking care of stray cats, trying to make their life on the street easier, but our proteges were endangered all the time. I have always thought that building of a shelter would mean safety for those (and other) cats so it finally took place last year. My cat shelter is named after a kitten Milance that I had found on the street with his kind legs cut off, so it’s full name is Milance Cat Rescue Shelter Felix. It’s located in a small village in Vojvodina, Serbia. I have about 100 cats in my shelter right now, all of them ex-strays. They are all neutered and spayed, vaccinated and checked by the vet on the regular basis and although some of them are very old or chronically ill it seems that they enjoy their life here. In spite of the fact that my shelter is rather crowded, I can never turn my back on a cat in a desperate situation, therefore they keep arriving every now and then. As the number of cats grows bigger, my expenses rise and it becomes harder and harder to defray them all, but the sight of happy kitties that are playing and running and resting completely relaxed, probably for the first time in their lives, makes all the efforts worthwhile. My shelter depends on donations entirely and every kind of help is needed, welcome and greatly appreciated. Serbe - Nis
There are over 400 dogs and few cats. Dog catchers are catching and killing dogs every day. We cannot stop it although we have the law that bans it. We can only rescue what we hear of and see and what people bring. And they do bring almost every day. We pay 150 e for the rent of the land monthly. Some people that started it with me gave up when the number of dogs expanded so we have some paid workers and volunteers come on weekend mostly. 5 of them.. I go every day, supervise and help out and take the dogs to the vet etc..
We are an organization APS NIS with not many members and volunteers. Few people take care of the dogs. We started this in may 2003 because we couldn't bring dogs we found to our homes, I already had at some point 10 and we agreed to take this land, RENT it and we rescued more and more dogs and now we have what we have.
People are leaving them at the gate non stop / grown up and puppies and it never ends
Belgrade is 240 km north from Nis We dont get any help from the local officials because they finance only the pound and vets who kill the dogs. They give 5 milion dinars – over 60000euros for killing! And still there are dogs in the streets.
De steun aan NIS loopt via SOS Strays Belgie.
