There are over 400 dogs and few cats. Dog catchers are catching and killing dogs every day. We cannot stop it although we have the law that bans it. We can only rescue what we hear of and see and what people bring. And they do bring almost every day. We pay 150 e for the rent of the land monthly. Some people that started it with me gave up when the number of dogs expanded so we have some paid workers and volunteers come on weekend mostly. 5 of them.. I go every day, supervise and help out and take the dogs to the vet etc..
We are an organization APS NIS with not many members and volunteers. Few people take care of the dogs. We started this in may 2003 because we couldn't bring dogs we found to our homes, I already had at some point 10 and we agreed to take this land, RENT it and we rescued more and more dogs and now we have what we have.
People are leaving them at the gate non stop / grown up and puppies and it never ends
Belgrade is 240 km north from Nis We dont get any help from the local officials because they finance only the pound and vets who kill the dogs. They give 5 milion dinars – over 60000euros for killing! And still there are dogs in the streets.
