Scratching at Deaths' Door....husky rescued sept 2010.jpgPedigree Husky left to starve to death.

Yet another case of desperate neglect and abuse, caused by humans, against innocent animals.  ARO exists because this kind of madness continues every day - it is not restricted to any specific breed or type of animal.  What drives a human to cause such long term negligence to another living being?   We appeal to the public to speak out against the ongoing over breeding of dogs and cats.  Do not support back yard breeders and have all your animals sterilised.  South Africa must address the desperate plight of its' animals and you can help us by promoting the sterilisation of domestic pets.

This Husky will stay in ARO custody indefinately.  He is young and deserves a second chance. ARO veterinary staff will care for him and do as much as possible to save his life.  ARO will report back on his progress.

VEHICLES OF HOPE ~

Without vehicles, ARO cannot reach sick animals in township and informal settlement communities, we cannot collect animals to be sterilised and we cannot rescue animals in desperate need. If you can support the ARO Vehicle Fund please use the bank details provided.  Enquiries to Karen de Klerk on karen@animalrescue.org.za ; alternatively, call Karen at the ARO during office hours.

YOUR MEMORIES CAN RELIEVE SUFFERING

garden ebulletin sept.jpgIn June this year, some ARO staff and volunteers got down to it and turned an old piece of disused garden into a beautiful Memorial Garden.  What a wonderful workout that was!

The garden is named after ARO's dear friend and volunteer Gloria Rogers and is open to anyone who wishes to place a Memorial Plaque in the garden.  Suzie and Max, our lovely resident ponies live right next to the garden, together with a selection of stable cats.  They love the company of visitors!  The garden is home to some beautiful bird life (water birds in the winter!) and is carefully and lovingly maintained by ARO Committee members.

There is something very soothing about placing a memorial plaque in the garden.  It offers a chance for peace of mind, closure and understanding that life is not forever, but memories of our loved ones, both animal and human, can bring relief to others who suffer.

If you wish to place a plaque in the garden please contact aro@animalrescue.org.za.  Alternatively, you can call ARO on 27-21-3965511.

EDUCATION IS OUR ONLY KEY!yep sept 2010.jpg

ARO is reminded daily that very little "change" will take place without ongoing education programmes, sterilisation campaigns and public awareness campaigns.  We are delighted to announce that Grand West Corporate Social Investment donated funds for the production
of a professionally produced education DVD in 3 languages for both Intermediate and Senior phase Primary Education.  Together with ARO Education Officers, a programme of "It's cool to care, and uncool to be cruel !" will continue in township and indigent schools.
