CATch me if you Can!=20

Over a period of only two and half days the 'CATch me if you Can!' team =
together with the two visiting vets managed to spay and neuter over 70 =
street/bin cats, (56 females and 16 males) of which 80% of the females =
were pregnant. Our tool shed was cleared to give each cat an overnight =
stay, then next morning all our temporary 'bed & breakfast' cats, I am =
glad to say, were safely returned to their original collection points. =
There were also 8 cats who had recently given birth, we concentrated on =
these first in order for them to have longer recovery period, so that we =
were able to re-unite them with their kittens later during that night.=20

During this short period the visiting vets also managed to do more than =
just sterilizing cats. They sterilized 4 female and 2 male dogs, of =
which; one dog had three tumours, which were safely removed and her =
operation lasted over one hour. One female dog had a very badly infected =
ovary, which, if she had not been brought in to be sterilised, the vets =
opinion was, that she would have become seriously ill and died. Yet =
another dog was pregnant, again an hour long surgery.=20

Other operations were also performed on cats, one of which had a hook =
through one of her back paws, another three had major dental surgery. =
Another cat had a small tumour removed from his ear, yet another tumour =
was also removed from another cat. One cat had a tumour removed from his =
leg and one of the on site SCWS life time sponsored cats who had been =
ill for a while was examined and the vets have taken with them blood for =
leukaemia testing, this cat was also put on a saline drip for nearly two =
hours. Three other blood tests were also taken back to their surgery for =
diagnosis, another cat had a badly infected bite which was operated upon =
to remove the infection and then stitched, this cat has since returned =
to the site of SCWS to be treated with medication for a five day period. =
One other unfortunate cat had to have an eye removed.=20

Included in this visit were two home visits and two emergency phone =
calls, along with three hours of consultations.=20

All of the sterilised cats had their ears clipped so that we know in the =
future that they have been 'done'. This has already saved one poor chap =
from a double whammy.=20

These two and half days seemed very long but were extremely successful, =
so until the next 'CATch me if you Can' visit, I would like to thank all =
the volunteers who made this vet visit challenging and rewarding;=20

Liz, Cat, Kim and Stuart for their organization of the booking in, =
cleaning, transferring cats, and taking care of recovery cats

along with the display of their names in and around Skiathos.=20

I am working on our next vet visit which I am planning for end of =
September 2009
